Food! Food! Food!

We really don't eat all the time, but one of the great pleasures of Merida has to be the delicious food and the quirky places we have found in which to indulge our love of food.  We posted some pictures of desauyno at Cafeteria Pop earlier, but we also have eaten lunch there and had our traditional cup of coconut ice cream with Kahlua!  Yummmm!

These are our three amigos at Cafe Pop!  They have been delightful to us gringos who try so hard to speak their language but usually fail miserably (except for Susan). One day I spilled some cream on the table, and I tried to apologize saying, "Lo siento"(so sorry), and Jose leaned in to me and said in his best English, "That's OK, baby."  He was so proud of himself.  Everytime we slaughter the language as we order, he politely corrects us and uses his English whenever possible.  He has been at Cafeteria Pop since its doors opened 42 years ago. They greet us with smiles and handshakes each time we walk in the door.

I ordered chicken tacos, but they are more like taquitos!  Delicious.

This is a little hole-in-the-wall place very near our casa that is called El  Cangretio (The Little Crab).  See the small crab on the wall behind the counter to the right.  All they serve are seafood tacos:  camarones, pescado, pulpo (octopus), fried or grilled, and all are delicious. Actually we haven't tried the pulpo yet! Felipe is the waiter on the right. We order two tacos and a Sol for 90 pesos total for a couple, that's less than $9 for two persons for lunch.  Wonderful flavor at a great price.
